Media Intrusion? All this stuff about Zoë Ball & Norman Cook has got me thinking about media intrusion. Do we all really want to know stuff like this and is it any of our business? Can you imagine the pressure it will add to their reported problems if every Sun reader in the street knows that all maybe not OK? You may well say that Zoë’s PR rep released this info but that was no doubt to put out the truth before a warped version was printed in the tabloids. I hear people say that Celeb's use their fame when it suites them so that makes them 'public property' but I don't think that can be said about Norman Cook. He has had so many musical pseudonyms throughout the years and avoided so many opportunities to become a 'big celebrity' that I think that the guy obviously does not crave fame. Also I think that people forget that fame seems to choose people not the other way round. Would it be ok if the papers were printing stuff about your personal life? What about if in a couple of years time they are printing stuff about Matt Hardwick or Richard Tulip's private lives (if they become big stars), is that OK because they are DJs? Discuss.
as you said before, it is none of our business. the problem is tho, new like that sells papers and makes lots of money for people. this drives greed, and where there is greed, there will always be a problem. sad, but true.
but the media wouldnt print it if we as a public didnt crave it. i personally couldnt give a shit what goes on in their personal live but there are so many sad individuals out there who want to know everything. so until these freaks who have no lives of their own to worry about stop their interest the media will keep feedin em full of it.
So should we have laws similar to the ones I believe France has that bans such stories unless the people involved choose for it to be printed. Can anyone confirm that I’m right about that law?
people love it... not me personally.. i cudnt care what they are doin... just look @ the magazines avaliable today.... all with 'INSIDE XXXXX's HOUSE'.....etc.... even magazines that never used to be like that are today... take vogue for example.... 15 years ago use to just have an image on the front... but years later and a change of editor.. the cover is full of bright bold text about 'MODEL SECRETS' etc... leave celebs alone.. theyve dun nuttin 2 u
im not entirely sure but i think ive heard that too. and they should implement it in this country. i dont want to be bothered when im a celebrity.
never heard of this one myself but sounds good! problem is tho i cant ever see it being passed as a law here. reporting on big name celebs is big money, and im sure some of this money in one way or another ends up in the hands of the government (taxes etc?). So its in their best interest to leave it be..
If it sells papers/gets audiences etc then it's dong it's job. Some people may not be interested but they must be enuff interest or else these things wudn't be published. I do agree that some celebs look for publicity more than others. Naomi Campbell had no problems trying to promote herself in the media but when the publicity turned negative, she tried to get court orders etc. You can't have the best of both worlds.
It sounds good but what wud be it's use in practice? Wud it enable people to cover up stories that are in the public interest such as MP's taking bribes etc. The media has a duty to report things like these and shouldn't be prevented from doing so. Fair enuff, some people deserve privacy but others wud use it to their own advantage.
most of the country seems to be obsessed with any trivia about 'celebrities' cos they are sad losers. The Star/Sun should be ashamed of the misery they pile on people when they are already suffering, the cunts I'm pretty sure that law exists in France, heard it talked about reoliticians. Should only be allowed to publish if it's in the public interest, not shit like how many cock-ends Clitring Aguilerra had last night Some of it is funny as fuck tho
Re: Media Intrusion? Im studying Media @ College and through out it ive found out that the Media can be cruel. As much as others say they are not interested in what goes on with zoe and norman there are actually people out there that are interested. I for one couldnt give two hoots about what goes on between them but ive found myself reading the papers? Why? I ask myself the same question... The media are not bothered who they hurt nor what they write/say - If it sell's and it makes them money then so be it. If you remember a while back i was asking for your views on how the Media covered September 11th as it was the subject of my Presentation. That was a heart gripping story that captured the lives of many and what happened on that day was horrifying. But what did the media do? Repeated things over and over - forgetting that there's still people out there who have lost parents, children, friends etc - Or were they forgetting? The papers sold an awful lot over that period and so any 'big' story they will follow and they will sell papers. Did that all make sense?
Isn't it their job to be our eyes and ears tho? I'm a journalist and I feel lucky to be in the position I'm in. No one wud ever want to do a 'death knock' and go interview a parent about their child who died in a road accident but, at the same time, it's part of the job. Fair enuff, some of the celeb stories may not be useful but other harder news needs to be reported and it's our job to do so. Like you said, it's all to do with business and being a success in that field.
Agreed. But sometimes they take things to the limits and are cruel for being a success. It makes you think though - next time you think the Media was 'out of order' for writing so so - who's more sick? You for reading or the media for writing?
Exactly. Sadly, if it sells it goes in. It's harsh but true. You can try to argue otherwise if u wanted but u'd find urself out of a job. U interested in working in the media then?
Fuck that shit. You can't say "it's the job" or "it's business" and make it ok. What some papers print is wrong, and the journalists who write that shite are wrong as well. People like it because they like prying into other peoples lives, same as soaps. Maybe these people just have sad empty lives
Welcome to the world of INFOTAINMENT! News has never been news. It's a tool which serves many purposes. This kinda shite entertains, and makes people feel good about themselves. And if anyone thinks that the tabloids serve any other purpose they need their 'ed examining!
exactly. its wot sells papers. so shouldnt the boot be on the other foot so to speak?? is it not our need for a gritty story of some1 elses downfall?? i mean lets face it most people lead sad lives and they love to read all this crap that goes in the papers to make them feel good about themselves as it proves that superstars and the like are no diferent from us.
Personally i don't care whats going in anybodies life apart from mine and the peeps close to me!! But the garbage papers out thier need something for the idiots to read and talk about. As i've learnt the press twist things to they way that it suits them, so don't believe what you read
obviously some stay respectable n wouldnt entertain printin shit like that. each to their own innit. as long as theres an audience........
