the fact is the name was established, the thing with godskitchen is its still called godskitchen, recycled as a name is shite but thats not the whole point, its the fact an established night is changing its name
Stage Door was one of the most established names of any club in town, changing the name to Cosmic Ballroom didn't make difference to the numbers. But if upsets you that much vote with your feet
The fact is its a shit name, but its got everyone talking about it. If it had a super cool name this thread would have died at the second page and no-one would be talking about the night still.
Not everyone goes because of the line up though. People don't say "that's a shit name im not going". but it's all about the brand and image. The average joe doesn't know what Recycled is. These guys need to try there best so people like the sound of it. To you the line ups might say it all but to others it doesnt. If it did then why do people bother spending more money on decent looking flyers etc? Changing a name of an established company/night is a risky thing to do anyway. They only usually do it if the night is a flop and no one goes.
Just out of interest then, how many people would go to a night because of the name? Youre right, it is all about the image, though the only thing that Proudy will be changing is the name which only makes up a tiny proportion of the image of the night. The night will be promoted in the same way (if not even more effectively and on a bigger scale than it has previously) targeting the same crowds with the same sort of DJ's being booked to play. Goodgreef started out years ago as a night called Totally Mashed in Manchester, before rebranding in the same way that Gary is looking to do with Junior G. This enabled the night to push on and become even bigger than it was before, using the existing fanbase and building on this to become the night that it is today. Promise did the same thing (it started out as a backroom house night in Sheffield if memory serves me right) and again this allowed the night to build on what it has and the new venue allowed Mark to take the night to the next level. Over the past 12 months Junior G has built up a strong following who turn up to the night month in, month out regardless of who is on - down to the consistently top drawer guests being booked as well as solid residents in Proudy and Marky building up a fanbase of their own during this time, as well as the wicked atmosphere amongst clubbers who regularly attend the night. These elements will not change regardless of what the night is called, and if anything the changes being made are being made for the night to be able to grow to become even bigger than it is today. Give it 12 months and see where the night is then, and we will then see who gives a fuck about the name.
I think the only point Oasis was making is that the name of the night can be important in attracting people originally, names like Gatecrasher etc are ded catchy and original, there's nothing original and certainly nothing cool and catchy about the name Recycled. They will have the line-ups definately and still pull a crowd, i just reckon a bit more effort should have been put into the nights name that's all.
A) McDonalds is a proper turd name but why would they change it? B) Recycled is an even shitter name so why would any change to it?
goodgreef godskitchen detox hareem curves freaky dancing inside out shindig white noise hooked q base trance energy cream all shit names, but it doesnt make a single bit of difference.
eh! so what's a good name then? Atleast half of those are decent names. I don't think you see the point here. It's not about being an amazing name, it's about not being a shit name. Those words in that list either have some meaning, look good or sound good. Recycled does neen. What am I doing on xmas eve trynig to help Jnr G(Recycled). Merry christmas mate
If a new night was starting up as either Passion, Godskitchen, Gatecrasher or even Promise and none had been used before you'd automatically think what a shit name. The only reason nobody does now is because they are known through the country. None of them are good or catchy, they are just known because of the fact they have put on amazing lineups and packed people through the doors. Goodgreef built up a following for i don't know how many months as a club night called "Oh My God" then decided to change its name, it's certainly done alright for itself since it changed name like.
the way i see it, recycled is to junior g is what evolve is to promise....maybe recycled wasnt the best choice but it does have some kind of meaning behind it, as its recycling what was left of junior g and making it into a better, more viable product..... merry chrimbo !
wrong line ups not the same people just booked anything that makes money. you will never beat promise weekly
so yeah same as promise at foundation when a certain person got to greedy and booked jules and that all the time. but i dont remember promise for that
But You could flick through a dictionary and come up with a name that sounds good which hasn;t been used already I agree, it does sound better after it's more recognisable but if a names shit, then it's shit full stop. If you had a chance to change you name from Aaron to something else would you call yourself Jackie?
